Lara Johnson

Lara Johnson is a senior strategic leader and advisor with 25 years of experience across public and private sectors with large, complex national and international organizations in sectors including telecommunications, post-secondary education, quick service restaurant, tourism, and automotive. As the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Lara led the development of BCIT’s five-year strategic plan, along with a new brand positioning and creative identity for the Institute.

Prior to joining BCIT, Lara was the Vice President of Advertising at Shaw Communications where she led the brand strategy and future growth story. Prior to joining Shaw, Lara spent close to a decade helping to build and shape one of Canada’s most iconic and successful corporate brands, TELUS Communications. Earlier in her career, while with Cossette Communications Marketing, Lara partnered with McDonald’s to launch their first global brand platform, I’m Lovin’ It. Also, while at Cossette, she developed the strategy for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s first mass-advertising campaign that successfully increased mammography use throughout BC and the Yukon.

Lara has worked in Burnaby for almost two decades and has many fond memories at the Burnaby Central Railway riding the train with her son. She enjoys cycling in the summer and skiing in the winter.
