April 25-29 is Every Kid Eat Healthy Week

By Wade Kinley

April 25 to 29 is this years’ National Every Kid Eat Healthy Week which encourages schools and families to improve the health and wellness of their kids and celebrates the link between nutrition, physical activity, mental health and learning. And while healthy eating habits begin at home, it’s nice to know that out there on-the-go on the West Coast there are plenty of options to not only eat healthy at local restaurants, but do so in a way that makes kids as happy as the adults in their lives.

Goodbowl

Goodbowl’s belief is that everyone deserves to have the best healthy-food eating experience. And that’s especially true for kids. At Goodbowl you can customize your own bowl of meat, veggies and sauce (often gluten and sugar free) on a bed of rice or noodles – and they have a special size just for kids. No more complaining about what’s in their meal, this way they can choose exactly what they like. And with every ingredient sourced for its nutrition, you can’t go wrong.

Chopped Leaf

Running to and from soccer practice or between activites doesn’t always leave time to get in a nutritious meal, so Chopped Leaf provides that necessary fuel without sacrificing the flavour that will make sure the kids will gobble it up happily. Their chef-designed kids’ menu includes rice bowls and salads, plus sure-fire favourites like chicken quesadillas and grilled cheese. All ready to go when you show up.

Locations in Langley, New Westminster, White Rock, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Vancouver and Vancouver’s North Shore.

You can combine nutrition and physical activity in an afternoon spent at Circus Play Cafe. Their menu is focused on quality, healthy food that is locally sourced and organic as much as possible, including kids’ “Tapas Boxes” with turkey and cheese roll-ups, mixed fruit and healthy crackers. Parents can enjoy a selection of local coffees and teas while the kids run through an open space full of simple design, high-quality play equipment, carefully curated toys and specially-designed sensory boards.

Buddha Full

You could make a pretty solid argument that the invention of the smoothie was solely to make nutritious foods most like a milkshake in order to get them into kids willingly. And when you’re on Vancouver’s North Shore the best place to do that is Buddha Full with their menu of delicious smoothies packed with goodness, such as fresh fruits and greens, hemp protein, chia seeds, housemade oat milk and more.

Transit: A couple blocks up from Lonsdale Quay SeaBus terminal.
