You may be baking bread and craving comfort foods these past few weeks, but with spring upon us, now’s a good time to seek out healthy bowls abundant in veggies and greens.

With hundreds of restaurants in the region offering takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup, here are a few hearty salads to seek out.

Cardero’s Vancouver

Kale and quinoa are nutritional powerhouses. In the Coal Harbour restaurant’s dish, grains and baby kale are jumbled with bright strawberries, creamy avocado, crunchy almonds, fresh goat’s cheese. Add grilled chicken for some extra protein.

Chickpea Vancouver

All things green rule at the popular plant-based restaurant. Treat yourself to the Cauliflower of Life Platter: Gluten free, it boasts roasted cauliflower drizzled with fresh parsley, mint, tomatoes, red onions, all drizzled with tahini and lemon-garlic sauce. COVID-19 bonus: spend $100 and get a free roll of toilet paper.

Field & Social Vancouver

Look no further for a variety of filling, flavourful bowls in Mount Pleasant, this is their specialty! Try the Curried Cauli with curried cauliflower, green lentils, roasted chickpeas, red onion, mint, parsley, toasted cashews and crispy papadom chips, topped with a pomegranate vinaigrette. You can even add on a cookie.

The Workshop Vegetarian Café Vancouver and North Vancouver

One of the few places in the region that makes vegan ramen, the Workshop also makes a gorgeous Organic Buddha Bowl. The brown-rice salad bowl has house-made chickpea-miso gravy, smoked tofu, alfalfa sprouts, and heaps of mixed seeds.

Leef & Stem Culinary Co. Langley

Specializing in vegan and vegetarian comfort food, Leaf & Stem has a Mother Bowl with roasted yams, Dupuy lentils, buckwheat and zucchini noodles, sweat-pea pesto, and pesto hummus. Frontline workers receive a complementary litre of soup.

Shady Island Seafood Bar & Grill Richmond

The Steveston Village eatery’s Warm Seafood Salad is an indulgent West Coast meal: Mussels, calamari, scallops, clams, baby shrimp nestle atop gourmet greens alongside sautéed onions, garlic, and warm roasted-tomato pesto sauce on gourmet greens

Smokehouse Sandwich Co. Richmond

Best known for its smoked meats, the restaurant also makes some mighty salads suitable for carnivores. Sprout is one of them, its name referring to griddled Brussels sprouts that are served on a bed of crispy greens then topped with honey and samson cracklings (from coffee-rubbed, strawberry-glazed beef brisket).

La Forchetta Burnaby

Chef Manrico hails from Pescara in the Abruzzo region of Italy and knows his way around insalata. The gluten-free Insalatone consists of crunchy cucumbers, romaine, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, fennel and olives with a lemon vinaigrette. Buon appetito!

Stan’s Pizza Joint Burnaby

To go along with fresh pie, try their spinach salad: fresh baby spinach leaves tossed with cranberries, sunflower seeds, red onion, feta cheese in raspberry vinaigrette. Optional add-ons include chicken or shrimp.

Socrates intheheights Burnaby

The Greek restaurant’s Kale Caesar is a standout replete with fried chickpeas, Greek-yogurt dressing, and kefalograviera cheese. A skewer of chicken makes it a full meal.

Orrange Kitchen & Bar Port Coquitlam

The Cajun Chicken House Salad at this popular neighbourhood spot is packed with flavour: pan-seared Cajun chicken shares the dish with fresh greens, pecans, feta cheese, and honey balsamic dressing.
