Executive Director Update

Exciting news! The team at Tourism Burnaby has been busy this summer with tradeshows, marketing campaigns and events; with just three full months left, we’re still gaining momentum. We’re really excited about the launch of the Burnaby Halloween Festival next month and look forward to seeing many of you at the launch event on October 12th.

As business conditions continue to improve, we’ve brought in a few new members to our family. Last month we welcomed a new Office and Marketing Administrator, Samuel Darmawan.  Samuel Darmawan joins us from Chatime Canada and Eigen Payments, where he served as a Marketing Coordinator and Account Coordinator, respectively. He is an SFU Economics graduate with a minor in Business.

Our board also grew one Director larger with the welcome addition of Mark Mclaughlin, Chief Commercial Services Officer at SFU. Mark will represent hotels with fewer than 100 rooms, including The Simon. Mark is a Senior executive / CFO with over 25 years of diverse leadership experience in the public and private sectors. Recognized for leadership in sustainability by Fairtrade Canada, the City of Burnaby, and Simon Fraser University. He is a good communicator in both English and French, having dealt extensively with boards, media, and government/municipal officials.
