Burnaby will start June off with a bang, with 50,000 visitors expected at Hats Off Day on Hastings Street in Burnaby Heights! On Saturday, June 3, fly on over to join us for a free “out of this world” Outer Space themed community celebration, with galactic excitement and adventure for all ages from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
12 blocks of Hastings Street from Boundary to Gamma will be closed to car traffic for this annual parade and festival, held since the early 1980s. It’s a day when merchants tip their hats in appreciation to their community. The street parade at the beginning of the festival will feature dozens of floats and displays from a variety of organizations.
A Family Fun Dash starts the day at 9:30 a.m. for kids and families, followed by the parade at 10 a.m. (Pre-registration is required.) As soon as the parade ends, the street party begins, and as one of the biggest street festivals in the Lower Mainland, with a variety of attractions, no one is left out. You won’t be disappointed with mouth-watering food, live music, space-inspired shows and much more! Here are just a few additions we’re excited about:
‐ Vancouver Circus School cosmic performances at the top of every hour at Hastings and Gilmore.
‐ The Hats Off Day Stage at Hastings and Carleton, featuring various music performances from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. including Alive and Kissin’, Vancouver’s KISS Tribute Band;
– The Teamsters Mobile Stage at 4400 Hastings, featuring Sound Machine and several other great local bands, and
– Our 20th annual Show & Shine, with 100 unique and vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles.
The Hats Off Day Organizing Committee thanks all of its many sponsors, contributors and collaborators, especially the City of Burnaby, more than 150 community volunteers and Burnaby Heights’ 360 merchants who together make this event possible. Be sure to bring the whole family to Burnaby’s favourite festival! Costumes are encouraged!
