This summer, Metropolis at Metrotown invites everyone to dive into a world of oceanic wonders with their “Under the Sea” themed activities. Running now through September 2, BC’s largest shopping centre promises a season filled with family-friendly events, enchanting decorations, and the debut of the Night Market at the Met.
Marketing Manager Amanda Chung expressed her excitement about the seasonal transformation, stating, “Our latest Under the Sea theme is one of my favourites so far. We love being a hub for the local community, and providing a gathering space where locals and visitors can enjoy free indoor and outdoor activities – including our first-ever Night Market at the Met.”
WHERE & WHEN IS IT?
Summer at the MET, featuring a variety of ocean-themed activities and events, runs until September 2. The Night Market at the MET takes place on July 4 from 5-10pm, July 5 and 6 from 4-10pm, and July 7 from 4-8pm. The shopping centre is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 9pm, and Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
Located in Burnaby, BC, Metropolis at Metrotown is easily accessible via the Metrotown SkyTrain Station on the Expo Line. For those driving, you can take advantage of the free four-hour parking. Stunning Displays with OceanWise
Metropolis at Metrotown has transformed into an underwater wonderland with “Under the Sea” themed decorations, inspired by OceanWise, their charity partner. Visitors can immerse themselves in vibrant jellyfish, coral reef, and seaweed décor spread throughout the centre, with the main display located in the Grand Court. These aquatic installations will be available until September 2. From July 17 to July 28, professional photo sessions will be held at the Grand Court display. Guests can pose amidst the undersea setting with ocean-themed props and a lively sea creature. Photo packages start at $20, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Ocean Wise. Night Market at the MET
The highlight of the summer events is the new Night Market at the Met, which runs from July 4 to July 7. This free-to-enter market, inspired by Asian hawker centres, will feature a variety of street food vendors, including Wakwak Burgers, Aburi’s WA Bagel, Butcher’s Block BBQ, Kam Wai Dim Sum, Bon Moment, La Meza Grill, and Don Oso. In addition to delicious food, the market will offer live music, a street circus, dancers, face painting, balloon-making, and a Spin and Win game. The Night Market will be located at the outdoor South Plaza on Central Boulevard, adjacent to the Metrotown SkyTrain Station.
“Under The Sea” Parade
On July 6 and 20, and August 3, from 12pm to 1:30pm, Metropolis at Metrotown will host an “Under the Sea” parade. Participants adorned in striking sea creature costumes designed by Lazy Wizard will parade through the shopping centre, starting at Zara and ending in the Grand Court. This parade provides fantastic photo opportunities for visitors as the colourful and eye-catching costumes make their way through the centre.
