Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for “Fifth of May,” commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Although Cinco de Mayo is not a national holiday in Mexico, it has evolved into a widely recognized cultural celebration, especially in North America, where it is often associated with Mexican-American heritage, culture, and cuisine. Today, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated with parades, festivals, music, dance, and, of course, delicious Mexican food and drinks.

Although Burnaby may be thousands of miles away from Mexico, its diverse community eagerly joins in the festivities of Cinco de Mayo. As part of your Cinco de Mayo celebration in Burnaby, be sure to explore some of the authentic Mexican eateries and stores the city has to offer.
